Title: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/26/15 at 03:49:56 I received a new exhaust header gasket from a third party dealer and this measures 55mm diameter but the exhaust port measures 67mm diameter. Is this right? I can't see how to hold the gasket central in the port without it dropping on the the lower edge of the port recess , see pic. |

Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/26/15 at 07:08:05 Doesn't the header go in partway? Can you slide it on the header ? |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/26/15 at 11:08:14 No You can't slide it on to the header as there is flange fixed to the end of the header pipe and it is this that the gasket pushes against |

Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by oldNslow on 09/26/15 at 11:44:53 OEM gasket is just a bit over 60mm OD. Part# 14181-45C00 I think. |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/26/15 at 13:27:17 Just checked my gasket invoice and the part is listed as fitting LS650 1987-2000. Mine is a 2005 S40 so I wonder if Suzuki changed the design of the Header pipe? |

They are all the same regardless of year. If the gasket you have is not 60mm OD it's the wrong gasket. Did it come in a sealed plastic bag with a white adhesive sticker with SUZUKI and the part # printed on it ? |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/27/15 at 02:09:31 I bought a pack of 10 labelled as fitting those LS650 dates but not Suzuki I found a thread from 2013 from someone who had the same issue - ie bought a non OEM part that was too small I'm going to order from a Suzuki dealer tomorrow and send the small ones back for a refund |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by strang on 09/27/15 at 02:52:49 I had this experience - tried to find cheap generic alternative (why not?) but it didn't fit and ended up going legit Suzuki. |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/27/15 at 11:14:29 Waiting for my replacement S40 exhaust header gasket meant I couldn't play out on my bobber this weekend but I still wanted to 'play' on it - the header pipe made a fine instrument - with a little help from some kitchen waste pipe - didgeridoo style! Hear what it sounds like here: https://youtu.be/CjR7NbLsQjI |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by strang on 09/28/15 at 12:15:25 ;D ;D can you call out to other Thumpers in your area? |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by Dave on 09/28/15 at 12:39:38 Good job on playing the header......and it is a good thing you must didn't blow on the end of the pipe - black carbon rings are tough to get off your mouth (I would guess)! |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/28/15 at 15:41:34 Some places in America , that could be dangerous. I don't think men are really up for a date with a moose. I, too, applaud the effort and understand the desperation of a downed bike. |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by marekbuk on 09/30/15 at 01:23:52 The company that supplied the wrong sized gasket have sent me a replacement pack of 10 FOC so now I have 9 x 61mm and 10 x 55mm gaskets spare. If any of you need one I can send you one FOC - you just pay the Postage (from the UK) and packing and the PayPal charge :) Its got to be cheaper than the OEM part |
Title: Re: Exhaust header gasket size? Post by strang on 10/01/15 at 06:42:20 I'd be interestds in a couple of the right sized header gaskets. |
