Hot TX.! Not riding enough. Battery fine for a few seconds then all goes dark. I charge it till 'green' light, take a trip, and battery is dead two hours later.

Is this just the heat and lack of use... or time for new battery?

Or more that maybe am I getting a short out, fuse???? My HF meter died so I'll get another soon.

Anyone got suggestions for good HOT weather battery? tks.

OK, so I charge it until I get a green light, starts fine. I push it out, go get my stuff, suit up and it's dead again. or after a minute the N light go green and it tries to chug, and goes dark.

Weekend lost.... I'm getting tired of this bike failing every time I go for a ride....

What's a good battery for HOT, TX... please?

Use a multimeter to test the voltage of the connected battery at rest, then test the V when under load, ie, turning the starter motor over, the differences will help decide whether the battery is fooked, as a starting point (pun almost attempted)

won't hold a charge more than a couple minutes regardless... twice now..

and the HF meter I was 'encouraged' to buy died but it was a 'special' no replace. so now more money in addition the battery. every time I want to ride this bike it's 3-10 days hassle and $200+. worse than a boat.

so I go to roll it back into the garage and it knocks over and EMPTY recycle tub and the rear turnsignal breaks off.... junk plastic... i think i was mislead into buying this. it never works to just get on and ride... I gotta go to MC repair sites for a week just to learn what's wrong and work another week to save enough to pay for the broken parts. so this is a good motorcycle... not by me yet so far....

Disconnect the battery, charge it, check it 15 min later.... is it good?

Then the wiring harness is shorting (grounding out) somewhere or your rectifier is bad.

If the battery is not holding a charge on its own.... its the battery.

I live in florida.... ITS HOT.... AND HUMID.... mine does fine.

Stick with us... there will be help forthcoming... I'm not a wiz at this but what i have stated i would do first.

If you watch the sales, sign up for the fliers, those meters are often
Free, with purchase.
I've had several of them.
I cooked one, my fault, but I knew I might, and that's Why I used it, and left the Micronta in the drawer. I have a spare, in the shop. The leads broke, but the meter is okay.
You can check the battery. If it's been left on, battery is probably dead.
Some meters die if it's set to
Ohms and the circuit is hot.

Or, be hauling the battery to be tested.
The hydrometer is a grand tool. But, finding one that can suck up fluid out of These batteries is probably impossible.

Green Light,, hmm,, don't know anything about the meter.
Or, how long it charged and didn't get to see the ammeter as the battery was charging.

I just spent about six hours saving a battery that was at seven volts.
Explaining just how would take a half hour to type.

How old is the battery?
Have you checked the water?

I suggested HF as a cheap source. I think I'm picking up a bit of a sour note on that.. I suggest HF for a coupla reasons.
Cheap, disposable, effectively.
And, the beginner doesn't need a nice meter.
Learning how to use one takes time. Using it wrong can cook it.
Kinda like a learner bike,
I don't know of anyone here who does their own maintenance who doesn't have a meter.
I also don't know of anyone here who has been around more than six months who doesn't do the maintenance.
Takes a while to get this figured out. Nobody here is making a nickel off of you.
More details would be helpful.
What kinda charger?
Voltage on the battery without the charger.
How long did it charge?
Voltage after the All Knowing Green Light came on?
Or, there is always the
Pull the battery out and haul it in to be tested.

Why guess? Pull the battery, take it Auto Zone or whoever and get it tested. Eliminate the obvious.

IF you need to get a new battery, I always go with Big Crank. Then again, my bikes don't sit.. but they do get ridden in the SOUTH Texas heat!
