Title: Motor Swap question
Post by CAPT CRUNCH on 09/15/15 at 08:42:04

would i be crazy to swap an older gen motor for my seized 06?
I know that going from pre 04 to a newer motor theres a electrical compatibility issue, so i assume that doing the opposite i'd run into some kind of issue.

I would suggest that you not go back too far.......stick with the 5 speed motor if you can.  By doing so you can get quite a bit of money for some of the parts from your siezed engine.  The head, cam, rockers, and parts for the starter torque limiter all are worthwhile parts if they are not damaged.

Depending on what is wrong with your motor, and how it got seized may make a difference as to it being repairable or not.  Sometimes just a used piston/cylinder will get you back on the road.  You really won't know until the engine is taken apart what parts are damaged.

You shouldn't have any problem with anything after '95, although I'm not absolutely sure about '95.

Prior to that you can swap the rotor and be in like Flynn.

You're in Temecula, that's within an hour of my parents house, and my parents house is about an hour from mine.
If you need any help, we can meet up.
If I wasn't elbow deep into a VW and severely limited by the heat, I could take on your engine problem.

So, if he brings you an air conditioner, then you'd suddenly become
Unlimited
and able to handle his seizure?
Not sure that came out just right...
