Title: Clutch slip issues with new discs and rod
Post by OCScumbags on 09/10/15 at 15:47:34

Just finished a ton of work on a bobber build for a friend. He said he wanted the clutch replaced so i obliged, before reading this forum i threw out the old plates. I only replaced the secondary plates. The clutch was a little slippy after it all went back in, i tried riding it around a bit and it started to get a little better, so i thought. Now it simply doesn't grab it all. I checked the rod length and found the stock one installed was a little short (stuck out about 11.75mm) so i made a new one with drill rod and made it protrude 12.5mm. Closed it all up and there's just absolutely nothing. I feel the bike go into 1st and the positron of the clutch lever means nothing, what should be fully engaged doesn't even make the bike lurch forward.

What am i missing here? Oil has always been wet clutch oil, plate replacement went by the Clymer manual, rod length is correct. I'm lost please help!

How much slack in the clutch lever before you start pulling the cable?
Is it reAl easy to pull the clutch lever?
Someone who is having trouble, but feels like that one area is okay, so, no details on what oil....
Go ahead, what oil?  Someone here might have had an experience..

I adjusted the cable until it felt normal, disengaging isn't the problem here though.

Oil being used currently is Valvoline 4stroke motorcycle oil

I don't think you are getting the point.
Do you have a gap at the lever when released?
If there isn't any then its too tight and will slip

After it not engaging i loosened it completely. In gear. It didn't grab.

With the clutch rod protruding 12.5mm and the cable disconnected there's slack in the lever.

Adjusted properly, is the lever easy enough for a little girl to pull?
Is the clutch actuator arm returning to
Home position?

I've had the cable at every possible tension setting. The clutch plates never seem to grab ever.

What i have trouble wrapping my head around is that I can feel slack between the levers "cam" and the clutch rod. Shouldn't that mean the basket had zero tension and should engage. Right?
