Title: Jet Question Post by scotnstl on 09/03/15 at 21:36:13 I had to fix my float valve and I noticed I have a 157.5 main jet. I want to go to a K&N filter in the stock air box. Will this jet handle that and if not do I have bigger options. I noticed most use a 152.5 with the dyna and a K&N. The bike seems to run well, but I have never ridden any other Savage to use as a baseline. Thanks |
Title: Re: Jet Question Post by Serowbot on 09/03/15 at 22:44:42 I'd try a 152.5... Never heard of anyone going to a 157,5.. I'm at #150/50 main/pilot.. at 2600ft... with a K/n slip-on and a Dyna muff... #152.5 might be better at sea level... You can always go back... More isn't better,... right is better... Beyond that,.. you just burn fuel... ;)... |
Title: Re: Jet Question Post by Kris01 on 09/04/15 at 17:51:22 A jet that big is probably running rich enough to smoke out the tailpipe and also wash oil off your cylinder walls. ;) Did you install that size jet? Try a smaller jet (152.5) and see if you lose any performance. |
Title: Re: Jet Question Post by scotnstl on 09/04/15 at 20:39:40 That was the jet it had when I bought it. I think I will downsize. I seem to recall someone posting that the 86 came with a 155. Is that correct? |
Title: Re: Jet Question Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/04/15 at 21:14:22 I had a supertrapp, 14 disks, KandN filter, even had the inner pipe outta the header, and I don't think my jet was that big and the exhaust sooted the brake arm up pretty good. I wanna say 152ish. |

That's always the best. And the carb gurus have spent time and effort to create guidelines for tuning. What to look for, and what the clues indicate the next step is. There's a way to check if the pilot is right, Heck, I never understood it.. Just do yourself a favor, read up, it's like painting by numbers. These guys have it all laid out. Tech section. And do some timed acceleration stuff, really feel of it before you start. |
