Title: First dogwoods begin to turn ..... fall, she comes
Post by Oldfeller on 08/25/15 at 21:05:02

In my area, dogwoods go first -- they go to yellow brown and drop before many of the others have finished even putting on their glory colors.

The pines, they don't care ....

:)

weather is lightening up a bit, but no obvious change in the trees down in east Texas,
Ten years ago we had over ten dogwoods,, now, I think two,, and one doesn't look good.

I like fall, it is my favorite season.   Summer is just so hot and is filled with yardwork and sweating and I don't even like going to the beach in the summer.

Fall is prettier, cooler and nicer.

And the workload actually drops off out in the yard as I chop my leaves up with the riding lawnmower during those last few passes of the year.   I may have cut the hedges for the last time for this year too.

Our weather is suddenly cooler than normal for this time of year.  Every night this week the night time temps have been in the low 60's and once or twice down into the 50's.  I have started to cut some firewood again.....as I just refuse to work that hard when it is 90 degrees!

I have been closing the vents in my helmet and my mesh jacket sleeves.  One morning I even put the liner back in.

I do like the fall rides....I just hate the 4 - 5 months of non-riding that follows.  Once they have applied salt to the roads....I don't ride again until the spring rains have washed it away.

Fall with all the color changes and cool weather is one of the things I really miss here in Florida. Spent a large part of my life in New England and Pennsylvania till I relocated down here by Daytona Beach. That first real cool morning with just a bit of frost, fresh off the tree Stayman Winesap apples and watching the hills burst into color as the leaves change, dang, it makes me a little home sick for the north.
Still in supersummer down here. Upper 90's with a heat index around 105. Too hot to ride unless I get out in the morning.

The nights have been cooling off here in Colorado, too.
Everyone be aware of slippery leaves on the ground; especially the wet ones.

Dave, you need a winter bike. Cheap, ugly, no matter, it's a ride that salt won't ruin.

I might have one.  It is a theft recovery bike that was not in too bad of shape - other than it was taken apart and some parts were lost.  It just needs some work to put it all back together....it has a plastic laundry basket of parts that came with it.  No fuel tank or speedo, rubber hose from the air cleaner to the carb, no rider seat - but the rest of it is all there.

Wonder if I can find some studded tires for it? :o

Come on Dave, I know if I'm on it, it's
Studded all over.
Seriously, have you done that? I've seen it on T.V.,
So, would it be like getting run over by a Skill saw or a chain saw?

No....that is the tire from a European ice racer.  They have fenders that cover the entire wheel, and lot of protective gear on the rider....it is a brutal sport.  The ice racing in the US uses studs that look like sheet metal screws and they don't cut you nearly as deep.

Finally rain is coming!! Forecast for it tomorrow, Sat and off and on
for the next few days..
I am not usually so excited about it, then again it has been so hot
and land everywhere is bone dry.
I was able to do a little yard work the other day and that will
be it for awhile.
I have enjoyed the early a.m. rides and noticed the last few
mornings the coolness in the air.
Lows in high 40's and highs in 80's..
So helmet and gear is hung up for now.
Shadow is stowed away and I will get reacquainted with my Juke..
I love all the seasons and here one definitely gets to experience them..

Seriously, "Studded”,  Tires for, Ice Racing, on a frozen lake.
Big time, MC Events.

Will trade, some land in Minn, (Near Several Lakes),
for some land in AZ/TX.
You can ride in the snow, not to hot for ya.    LOL

Used to have, ’studded’ tires on a car, (They Worked),
when they were legal in Minn.
But the DFI’s, kept using them, in the Spring, and tore up the Tar,
so they were Banned.

But, 'Studded', Snowmobile tracks are Still allowed,
And in the early Spring, the 1% DFI, 'Snowmobilers', tear up the Tar,
so much the County has to re-tar that part of the road.
