Title: Possible knee replacement Post by kimchris1 on 08/25/15 at 17:25:06 So after being in pain, swelling and having to wait over a month to see Ortho Dr. the verdict is in. Ostheo Arthritis as well as bone to bone and bone spur. This has been very painful for about 3 months. My knees are both crocked as being born with what is called knot knees. He gave me a shot of Cortisone and said if it helps, I can get 1 every 3 months. This is not a cure just a band aid, that eventually I will have to have it replaced. I have iced and continue to keep it iced and elevated as much as I can. The good thing is it does not seem to hurt when I ride the bike...Being able to stretch out a bit helps.. I am wondering if any of you have gone thru this? Was the surgery worth it or not? I am considering the surgery as if it means I could be pain free and get back to what I was doing a few months ago, it would be worth it. |

Cousin (Nancy) in LA has had both replaced with excellent results. Neighbor is having trouble with her second due to scar tissue . (Replacement on other knee = no problem.) |
Title: Re: Possible knee replacement Post by kimchris1 on 08/25/15 at 18:24:45 Thanks and as much as I am NOT looking forward to surgery, being able to walk and not hobble is leaning me towards the surgery. I just received a call from the surgeon's office and he is already scheduling into the new year. Tomorrow I will gather the info on the LOA from work. I will keep all my pals here posted and on what is going on.. Hugs to all.. :-* :-* Kim, Genie and Shadow |
Title: Re: Possible knee replacement Post by prechermike on 08/26/15 at 06:15:29 Kim, I have bad knees as well. They talked about a replacement for me, but suggested osteo-biflex, a glucosamine and chondroitin over the counter thing. It has really helped me, I saw results in a week of taking it. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me! |
Title: Re: Possible knee replacement Post by Ed L. on 08/26/15 at 06:40:24 My wife had her left knee replaced three years ago. She said it doesn't hurt as much but still is not perfect with numb areas of skin around the scar. Some people have a fast recovery while others don't. All in all she is glad that she got the knee replaced but the recovery took almost a year. Good luck with it, the shots will help. |
