Title: Battery won't charge

Battery won't charge from a very old savage. I heard that i might have to replace the relays. Any more info on this?

Are you sure the battery is good enough to charge?

If it won't charge, you need to check the stator and the reg/rec.
One of the two is bad. This is assuming the battery is in decent condition.

If the battery won't hold a charge, it's dead.
If the fully charged battery's voltage drops below 11v when cranking, it's dead.

Check your voltage when idling. It should be probably just over battery voltage.  At 5000 rpm, it should be around 14v.

The stator should show low-ohm (approx 2 ohm) connection between any 2 of the 3 leads. No lead should show a connection to chassis ground.

Here's information about and how to check your voltage regulator.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Steve H is absolutely right.  Here's a quick YouTube video on checking the regulator rectifier.
