Title: raising the seat
Post by jspace on 08/12/15 at 19:55:08

Ive been reading a lot about raising the seat height.  Curious how much of a difference it makes?  I was hoping someone would have some pictures of what they used.  Are you just raising the front bracket?

Thanks.

I raised mine with some rubber stoppers from the hardware store. I think they were 1.5" or so. It prevents you from riding on the tank. My crotch appreciates the lift! You'll need longer bolts too.

I cut a couple of oval shapes out of an old cutting board and wrapped them in electrical tape and put them under the seat mount.

Oh yeah... If you have the later model 1-piece seat, you'll need to find a way to support the middle and back of the seat. I cut a rubber bungee cord into lengths about 2 or 3 inches and siliconed them to the bottom of the seat. Use them stacked to whatever height you need. It'll prevent your seat from stress cracking. Use as many as it takes to form a solid base to the frame. Sorry, I don't have any pics. Just picture a rubber shim with a longer than stock bolt running through it.

No. The 2 mounting tangs on the tank sit on their own little OEM rubber grommets. The inch or more tall rubber stoppers go on top of the tank tangs. Then the metal piece with the tongue that holds the seat goes on top of that, using bolts long enough to go down to the frame bracket under the whole shebang. The stoppers and bolts are at Lowes.

You have to drill down thru the center of the stoppers to run the bolts through. The rubber isn't crazy about being drilled or letting you keep the hole straight. But it doesn't have to be perfect.

It is a real improvement. Costs 8 or 10 bucks.

The difference is quite noticeable.  One of the best non mechanical mods. I'm using #4 stoppers and it's great, but I'm thinking that adding a half inch spacer would make it even better.
