Pretty cool looking.....not sure it will (or should) become a new fad.

I wonder what it does to the inside of the engine when you screw up and bite the water at full revs.

:o

I rode my nice, well taken care of mountain bike in the ocean (not like he did...just up to the seat, etc) a few years ago goofing off with the niece and nephews in Hilton Head. Despite my cleaning it at what I though was thorough, it ended up many months later rusting out several spokes on the front wheel, rusting out my pedal bearings, yucked up the fork springs and head bearings, etc. Of course had to take the front and back wheel completely apart to disinfect and re-grease them as well as the front forks, head, and everything else I could get my hands on. Lesson learned! :o

I'd want a tip over or dead man's switch to seal the intake exhaust and breather.  maybe something with a throttle override just in case.  wouldn't want to go into a turn hit a bump that'll activate the tip over and put you into the water even though you had control.

The Motorcycle Surfing video was on ABC World News this evening.

The rider is a professional stunt rider and he doubled for James Bond in the movie where there was a motorcycle chase over roof tops.

The back tire on his Surfer is nothing like I have ever seen before. He has an inflatable airbag on the tank that is manually activated to keep him and the bike from sinking if the engine stalls.

Cool setup.

Pretty sure it's a sand paddle tyre. Do you guys do sand drag racing in the states? Robbie Maddison rocks  8-)

Back in the day (early 80's), buddy of mine took his nice brand new 4 wheel drive pickup down to the beach here on the Okaloosa island. We had a beach party that lasted into the evening.
Back then the local police didn't always ticket you or fine you, for a fire on the beach, but you couldn't drive your vehicles on it.
Well, about 2 cases of beer later and a "hold my beer" moment happened. Him and I carried one cooler to the truck, we got there winded, so he say's "i'll drive it to the beach, we'll load it up, and get back to the parking lot before the cops even know we did it".
Well while we were loading it up, someone hollers "here come the cops!"
Slammed up the tailgate, hopped in and off we go DOWN THE BEACH! no lights and slamming into waves as they piled up on the beach.... we did this for about two miles and got back out on the road (highway 98), hit the barracks and went to sleep.
Next day we took it to the carwash and did what we thought was a really good job.
Two years later, his body and frame were starting to rust..... two years after that, he sold it to a junk yard.... a four year old truck! rusted out to beat heck!

Really cool stunt that video! Some interesting mechanics going on, you wouldn't think any kind of vehicle with that size skid plate and that small paddles on the tire, could run indefinitely across open water.

I guess you've seen how they do it in Iceland?  8-)
