Title: Project; Rookie Blue.
Post by BacktobasicsZM on 07/30/15 at 08:42:55

Figured I would start a build thread.
I bought this a month ago.  First bike.  2006 with 14K, with new tires, new battery, and a carb cleaning by a local dealer.

Picture as listed on dealer website.

First order of business was to remove the windshield and to eliminate the chirping exhaust.  I removed stock muffler, and went with a 1.75 Thrush Glasspack.

Sound is loud but not obnoxious.  Enough that people hear the bike coming, but not enough to give me a headache after riding.

I wrapped it in black header wrap.  I will post pictures of that shortly.  It blends into the bike, nicely.  I like the red, but frankly against blue accents, it didn't look right.   The header wrap wasn't too bad, but definitely a 2 man job when wet, and climbing UP and DOWN the bump of the muffler was a CHORE with the wrap wet.  Maybe next time, I will do it with the wrap damp, but working with it after dunking in water was the wrong way to go about it.

An 06 in metallic baby blue with 14k miles. I had to take a look outside and make sure my bike is not missing.

I actually have around 17K miles on my bike now. FYI, I installed the versy camchain tensioner at around 14.5k miles and it was pretty much just in the nick of time. I recommend you at least take a look at that asap and order the case gasket for it also. I still have not changed my gasket and it is leaking a bit.

Yep, I too have an "06 in that same color. I knew it wasn't mine. I was riding it today.

And welcome

Actually, it is due for a Versy modded one. My 2003 needed the tensioner swapped at less than that. And is ready (and then some) for a new timing chain. Bike has around 46K total miles on it, had 7700 and change when bought April 2014. Had 15,500 and change showing when the speedo/odo quit in summer 2014.

What a great time to slap a cam in it.

Depends if I am buying it from you.....or you want to be the test victim for an Emgo muffler mod.

Let me wait until I figure out how to put this new one on then we can do whatever we want with the Emgo :)

Thanks for the welcomes.
I will investigate the chain tensioner.  I need to remember to do it at home, as Photobucket is blocked at work (those evil pictures), so much of what is on the forum in images, I miss out on.

I also need to do some jetting, I think it's on the lean side of things.
