Title: Manuals
Post by norman breedon on 07/22/15 at 12:44:32

Hi,
I have a 2014 S40 for which I purchased a Suzuki manual.
Is there any advantage to buying the Clymer as well?

Thanks, Norman. :)

Generally speaking, the OEM (the suzuki) manual is for motorcycle mechanics.. professionals.
The Clymer manual is written with the "Do It yourself" mechanic in mind.

In other words, it depends how much you know already

I did not know that. I ordered a Zuki manual when I bought the bike.
Had I found this place first, I think I woulda bought used.
But the manual is just crucial.

Hey, Norman,, welcome.
I haven't seen anything about you. Knowing a little about your history and mechanical experience helps. First bike? And good going getting a genuine manual. Darn thing really helped. I Need a hard copy. This bunch saved my butt too. I'm not a carb guy..

I've never seen one. The Clymers and Owners Manual are all that's available online.

...if you mean a download link.

Norman,

What I am asking is where did you get the factory manual?

Kenny

I ordered mine from the parts counter when I bought the bike.

That's probably the only place you'll find a factory manual.

Kenny,
I got mine from my local dealer. Wanted to give them the business.

You can also get one from :
Genuinesuzukimanuals.com for about the same price.

Hope this helps, Norman.
It is a comprehensive manual, by the way and covers all year models.

Justin,
I have been riding for more years than I care to admit. And have owned more bikes than I can recall if you know what I mean.

The only beef I have with the bike is the design of the cylinder head.
Having to split the camshaft bearing to torque the head bolts ???? >:(
And also that silly plug to cover up their mistake.

Other than that It is a great little bike and so easy to handle. My other bike at the moment is a 2005 Triumph Bonneville T100.(wash your mouth out Norman) ;-)

Cheers everybody, Norman.

Norman,

Thank You.

I need to order from Ron Ayers soon and if they can get the manual fine, if not I will get it from the website you mentioned.

I guess $80.00 is about the right price.

I am sure there will be a lot of disagreement posted, but to me the Clymer's manual that I have is poorly printed and next to useless.

While we are talking about technical stuff.

Savage Greg has made a superb downloadable picture album.
It is stunning in its detail and is probably better than any manual. If anybody has not seen this I feel it is a must for any do it yourselfer.

Many thanks Greg, I learned so much from your effort that I have a pretty good picture of the mechanics of the bike and I have hardly touched it yet.

Norman.

I am not sure if you have to download it to view it or not, but it is not a very big file.
