Title: Brake Pin
Post by Coaxial on 07/08/15 at 18:40:27

Hey,

I am trying to change out the pads as I usually do and this time around it seems that the brake pin(#10 in diagrams) holding the pads in is stuck.

In an attempt to loosen, I am afraid i stripped the head a bit. An Allen wrench can still grip it somewhat but I dont think enough to get it loose. Ive sprayed it with some lubricant and hopefully it helps but does anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks

If it's stuck, try tightening it first before you loosen it.

50/50acetone, transmission fluid. Best penetrating oil.
Make sure your Allen wrench is correct.

Bolt head clean,

Before you strip it, come back, there's more to try.

Read those last 3 words!  Works better than WD40.

If you do make a batch, the acetone will separate from the ATF. Just shake it up before you use it each time. Kinda like spray paint!  :D

No go guys. Completely stuck on there. My cousin who is a mechanic came by and tried after i soaked it in ATF/Acetone. He did try and tighten and then loosen but no go, Tried extracting but the metal was too soft.. we didnt have any more tools for that. The head is ruined.

Now I must find a new caliper as he also discovered that the dealership that last put on my brakes over torqued one of the bolts and the threads are messed.
