Title: Brake Bulb
Post by Drey on 07/07/15 at 11:26:36

Hey guys, I have two questions. The first is really really simple but I'm at work and have none of my manuals to help here and need my partner to pick up a part.

Some jerk stole the rear brake light bulb from my bike last night. I found a suzuki part number but that doesn't seem super helpful at Napa or Autozone. Does anyone know what bulb I need? Local shops only seem to have replacement bulbs that don't match the wattage on the OEM parts and they're $20...

Second, anyway tips on preventing this? I suppose I should just keep spares as I have to park on the street.

Thanks for your help!

And you can get the 1157 bulb in a convenient 2-pack!

Smash lens, steal bulb.

Like Row said.

I can't believe someone would steal a bulb...

Was the lens okay? Screws left?

People will steal ANYTHING. We had somebody steal the bumper off one of our trucks at work. They even left us the bumper bolts.

Yeah, but a truck bumper is expensive a bulb is cheap
I'm shocked someone had the patience / willingness to work to actually turn a screwdriver that many times for a 2 and a half buck bulb

Maybe he was on the way to score a load and knew he couldn't afford to get pulled over after it was in the car...

Any chance it's someone you know pulling a prank?

shaving cream on the seat is a prank

I've had, ummm, "friends" take the valve stem caps off my car. Funny to them.

Yeah, it's pretty weird. Lens and everything were fine. They took the time to unscrew it and put it back on... just didn't tighten the screws down. So it was a $3 fix but super annoying as I use the bike to commute so it ruined my morning.

I feel like being a woman and having mostly female friends who don't ride makes the friend playing a prank thing super unlikely.

I think some jerk's bulb went out and they took mine...

That's weird, put the lens back on.. just WEIRD...

I won't say you're wrong, but that's a lot of work for a $3 bulb, and a thief usually won't take the time. (It raises the chance of them getting caught)
Unless it was a bike owner, they would have no way of knowing if your bulb would work in their vehicle, most folks don't know they interchange
I still suspect a personal thing, prank or maybe someone who thinks you slighted them in some way
It doesn't have to be a friend to be a prank, and you don't actually have to slight someone in order for them to think you did

Doesn't matter now, done is done, hopefully won't happen again

When you buy the 2 pack....tape the extra one to the outside of the lens.

Then they can just take the spare bulb and leave your bike alone! ;)

;D ;D ;D
Like owning a convertible; never lock the doors, the theif will just cut the top open
Now your car has a ruined top in addition to whatever else they do to it (steal the radio, steal the whole car, etc)

That's not a good "prank" to do.... especially if you got rearended.  That's exactly why I park my bike right where I can see it. Might wanna get a dropcam?

Does anyone own an older vehicle that uses 1157s? those would be the first ones id be asking.

I do...   but I'm innocent, I swear... :-?...

Maybe some good Samaritan noticed yer' bulb was burned out, and was in the process of buying you a knew one, and replacing it for you...
That would explain not smashing the lens and putting the screws back...

That would be nice...  I think I'll hold on to that delusion...  :-?...

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.  What an awful prank!  In addition to the places mentioned above, you can usually get 2 pack of 1157's at the 99¢ store.

I'm glad they didn't do anything worse to your bike...Let's hope this is an isolated incident.

First rule of motorcycling? DO THE PRE-FLIGHT CHECK! Which btw, includes checking if all of your lights work 8-)

Um, I've got a whole yard full of vehicles that take 1157 bulbs... riding mowers, tractors, trucks, cars, 4 motorcycles, 7 trailers... One 59 cent bulb isn't worth the trip though (buy in bulk at the truck stop, unit cost drops a lot).
