Title: Re: Look out crabs..... Post by raydawg on 07/03/15 at 06:56:02 Yes, its mine..... It is an old, 1959 Glasspar Seafair I rescued from distinction :D I am slowly bringing her back to life, but I'll never get her back to her former glory days, but many far more talented than I do. The line has a dedicated bunch putting much effort into them. |

It has a porta potti I need a sign >:( We loaded up, my wife, BNL, and myself, 5 traps, and plenty of anticipation of dungeness crab dripping with butter. Got them baited and dropped in. Checked back after a short soak, nothing >:( Kept checking the same two, nothing.... Well, long story short. I bought a couple new traps, they came yesterday and I rigged them up. Uh, I never removed the small rubber band that holds the trap door the crabs walk into the trap, when shipped, CLOSED Geez, I can't make this stuff up....... :-[ I was planning on installing the belt sweetheart Dave sent me, but am having seconds thoughts, I might choke myself with the belt somehow :( PS: We did manage to scratch out 1 lone boy keeper my wife and I shared with our dinner. We did get a fair amount of females, but we can not keep them. You have to release them. Not sure why the females readily enter the traps and the males don't, but a discerning mind could prolly offer a few good answers if we think of their landlocked sisters and how they readily take the bait in a bar 8-) |
Title: Re: Look out crabs..... Post by verslagen1 on 07/04/15 at 08:20:15 maybe if you endow the cage with some burnt rubber, empty beer bottles and such maybe you'll get more males. ;D |
Title: Re: Look out crabs..... Post by Serowbot on 07/04/15 at 08:36:02 ... and bacon... don't forget bacon... :-?... |
Title: Re: Look out crabs..... Post by Art Webb on 07/04/15 at 11:00:02 I can attest from experience bacon work well for crawdads, maybe crabs too ;D |
Title: Re: Look out crabs..... Post by raydawg on 07/05/15 at 07:37:34 I've caught many a crawdad with bacon on a string too, love em' :) Yep, crab don't seem to picky. After the salmon season opens I use the heads and carcase, that I think too them is like a banana split with lots of whipped cream.....they almost climb into your boat to get it ::) I like to zip tie a turkey leg to the cage, hanging it upside down inside the cage. It works good and they can't shred it so fast, so one leg last a while. Course in my day I could shed a pair of legs in no time.....but then again I could walk up a flight of stairs without have to stop at every landing to rest :-/ |
