Title: Need a new foot peg...
Post by Cardinal on 06/26/15 at 09:45:32

Hi all! New member here, I don't own an S-40, but a friend of mine does and she is in need of a new Left Foot Peg. I'm kinda responsible for her situation  :-[ , I led her into some deep gravel on a steep grade and she went down. The Peg was the only casualty.
What I need your help with is finding a more comfortable peg for her than the OEM one. I found one on Ebay, But it says it fits darn near every Boulevard Suzuki has ever made. My experience with Universal fitting parts is that they universally fit NOTHING!
Any one find an aftermarket peg that really does fit the S-40?

provide a link and we'll check it out for you.

personal opinion: the stock will be more comfortable than most aftermarket.
unless you want floorboards, then that's another question.

Here's a link to the peg we're looking at. She doesn't like the stock peg, much, says it's uncomfortable in her arch.

These look similar to harley pegs that some have modified to work.
They're not exactly the same mounting as we have.
Being that they are manufactured and not modified, might work.
issue that some have had with modified pegs is they droop.
which can be fixed with shims, just have to be inventive.

What sort of modification is required on the Harley pegs? Does the hole have to be enlarged? Or Reduced? Shoulders ground down?
We might give them a shot and see what happens.

Harley uses a smaller bolt to secure the pegs, so it's an easy drill to our larger size.  The only issue I think people have been having is keeping the drill from wandering.  I would bias the drill to make the alignment feature thicker.  Then you can simply file a bit off to get it to sit correctly.

Thanks Verslagen, guess I'll order a pair and see if we can make them work.

You might check out DZ customs ebay store he has alot of stuff for the savage. Here are a couple different ones he offers but I'm sure he has more. I got the first pair in the mail with ten minutes to get to work just as I was rolling the bike out of the garage. Had them on and made it to work on time.  Comes with a couple shims so these don't sag at all. I do like the one with the stirrups though.http://www.ebay.com/itm/S40-SAVAGE-LS650-SUZUKI-BLVD-CHROME-O-RING-FOOT-PEGS-/120409016228?hash=item1c08efc7a4.

And here's the other pair. He does some cool hardtail struts also if interested

I can personally verify that DZ Customs is a great ebay seller and has awesome products. I have a set of these on my '03 Savage now
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOULEVARD-S40-SAVAGE-CHROME-SPLIT-RUBBER-FOOT-PEGS-/350190983237?hash=item5189025845

He bores out the hole to fit the original Savage bolt and includes spacer washers for the install. Took me all of 20 minutes and they look awesome.

If you are a metal-working type guy you can do this yourself of course. Any peg that has the same type of male flange will work. The beauty of the DZ pegs is that they have a bolt going through them that lets you adjust the rotation angle to suit (they are either Kuryakyn pegs or a very good copy).

The foot pegs arrived and are a dismal failure.
I could deal with having to drill the holes out a little bit, but there is no spur on them to limit how far they can swivel.
SOSDD.....universal fitting parts universally fit nothing!
Thanks for all your input, she's decided to stick with stock pegs.

Maybe she could try riding with the pegs more towards the ball of the foot?
Arch supports in the boots? Heavier socks?

Its not really that big of an issue. She just thought something like floorboards would be nice.
She's looking at a Triumph America, and liked the feel of the floorboards.
The S-40's range makes it so you can't be uncomfortable for very long....which is real handy for all us old farts on Goldwings and with limited bladder capacity....she is our excuse for frequent stops  ;)

I's like floorboards myself

universal fit = 1 size fits none  ;D

New foot pegs by proxy!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YB47KTK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

I needed 2 P clamps to mount the front turn lights.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Motorcycle-Black-Grill-bullet-Turn-Signal-Indicator-Light-For-Harley-Chopper-/151732834823?vxp=mtr

So $40 for 2 P clamps or $62 for 2 P clamps and I guess I will see how these foot pegs look.

I tried to install the right peg, but the holes were too small, easy fix, but the new peg doesn't have the spur on it that keeps the peg from rotating to far forward. I don't know if that would be a problem or not.
