Title: 150 80 15
Post by gchdavid on 06/23/15 at 10:27:19

Hello Guys, I am a new Savage owner and my bike needs new tires. Before anyone says to search, I have searched and basically read every thread about rear tire sizes but I could not find a concrete answer for my question so here it goes.

So far I have learned that stock is 140 80 15 and that most people go to a 140 90 15 without issues (my bike came with that already installed). Aside from that, going to a 150 90 15 tends to require modification of the swing arm (for some it fits and for some it doesn't). I have read a few comments here and there about an "elusive" 150 80 15 tire size but no-one has confirmed or denied that it fits in the stock bike. I would like to maximize the width of my rear tire. I have plans to modify the bike and will end up removing the rear fender all together soon so I am not too concerned with that. I also do a lot of fabbing and own a tig welder etc, would just rather not have to remove my swing arm.

What I need to know is if a 150 80 15 (rare, I know) would fit on the stock bike, without modification? Are there any existing pictures of such a setup?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

All tires are different.
most 140/90-15's fit, but the spitfire is wider.
I had to swap the hex head bolts under the fender for button head.

so get the spec's for the tire you want and compare it against the tire you got.

Thank you for your quick response. I understand that tires change from manufacturer to manufacturer but was more looking for specific real life experience with a 150 80 15 tire. Also, if anyone has any pictures of said tire I would appreciate them. I can't really compare dimensions to my current tire because it is severly worn out and it wouldn't be indicative of what fits.

Cheers!

Chris

This is the tire I am considering:

Shinko 777

87-4591  150/90-15      Heavy-Duty/White Wall  H      3.5  25.63  5.91

Cheers!

I seriously doubt that you'll get a response from someone who's done this.

I'd look up the spec's for the tire you have and compare it against what you got.  Sure the diameter will be smaller, oh, measure the circumference and divide by pi (3.14159) to get the diameter.
The width won't be worn, so that should compare directly.
Our rim is narrow, so it will pull it in some.

That should give something to guess at.
