Title: Dyna Muffler Question
Post by Jpope85 on 06/23/15 at 07:01:21

Hey All!  Just put a 06 stock dyna muffler on my girls 98 sav to get a much better sound.  Everything appeared fine after, was getting some really loud popping when letting off the throttle.  I back the air mix screw off about 3/4 turn and this seems to have it running fine.  I'm pretty new to carb/fuel adjustments and just want to run this by someone to make sure there shouldn't be a problem, or what i should check.  thanks!

Setting the idle mixture screw should be done with the engine warmed up and running....it is not just a crank it open a bit more type of adjustment.  You need to adjust it so the engine gets the proper amount of fuel while running.

Here is a video that will show you what to do.

If you end up with the idle fuel screw going out more then 3 turns....stop as it will not flow any more fuel beyond that point.  It is time to install a larger pilot jet if you need more than 2.5 turns.

If you can turn the screw in less than a full turn...or all the way in and the bike is still running...you need a smaller pilot jet.

Check for exhaust leaks... the tiniest air leak will make you pop like crazy...

I put a screwdriver in my pocket, shirt pocket, little driver. Went for a ride in town and tweaked at red. lights
