Title: Dollar store chrome trim
Post by chzeckmate on 06/19/15 at 18:36:43

So I had a minor accident and roughed up the edge of the front fender and destroyed the new windshield I just bought.  I went to Lowe's and bought a piece of remnant Lexan and made a new windshield and bought some silver "chrome" trim from the dollar store.  I used two different kinds of dollar store trim.  The trim around the front fender covers the scratches on the edge and the trim around my Lexan windscreen just makes match the overall scheme.  I also have the trim around the rim of the tank and rear fender now too.  I think it looks pretty good for a dollar.

I wish I had j/k...Seriously, I appreciate the compliments.  That 1/4 sheet of MR10 Lexan was only 9 bucks at Lowe's.  That plus the dollar for the trim made a tidy looking windshield for $10.  It weighs a lot less, is considerably more durable, and does a far better job of wind deflection than the expensive one I shattered too.  I'm very happy with it.

I know what you mean.  After I made this one a friend of mine asked me to make him one.  We looked for the mounting hardware online and it's not cheap.  I'm planning to make a winter shield, a smoke shield, and maybe a gradient one that I can interchange based on the conditions and just keep using the hardware I have.
