Title: bike is running funny
Post by Scott1234 on 06/08/15 at 11:12:04

hey everyone, i have a 2012 s40 with just a harley muffler. I do have the raptor petcock installed as well. The problem is that recently, within the past few days, my bike would sometimes stop accepting throttle. during these episodes it has poor power, even at full throttle i can barley hit 60. but after a while, never more than a minute, its goes back to normal and drives fine. ill have it at full throttle and it suddenly kicks in and i start gunning it. not sure what the problem is. thanks for reading - scott

Well it is most likely a fuel flow issue.  Try loosening the fuel cap and see if the problem goes away.  Sometimes the vent lines become clogged.

Are you running an inline fuel filter?  Sometimes air gets trapped in them and causes problems with fuel flow.

The California model is vented through a tube that goes to the fuel vapor system...all other models are vented through the cap.  Be careful not to put a CA cap on a tank that doesn't have the vent tube.

Maybe check the cap plug that you had to install on the lower vacuum port to make sure it isnt lost/loose/leaking.
You DID cap off that vacuum line, yes?

Oh, and be careful riding with the gas cap loose. There is no second stage hold-on or twist off function....turn the key and it will just fall out (that is the way it is on my 2003 at least).
