Can anyone recommend the name and where to buy some crash bars for 2002 650 LS?

There are several places I have seen (if you google it), but I suggest posting a wanted ad in the marketplace on this site if you want stock bars. I have them and like them, and got them for $30 from a member here in mint condition.

Buy a couple feet of 1" wide x 1/8 or 3/16" flat steel and a couple U-bolts that fit the lower frame cradle where it becomes the base rails. Buy a Panhead or Knucklehead era front crashbar from V-Twin Manufacturing or similar supplier. Trim the bar's upper mounts, buy a u-bolt that fits the crashbar upper bolt spacing. Bend the strap, drill and mount it where the down tube becomes the base rails. Mount up the crashbar, adjust foot controls for clearance.

If you are going to install one, make it worthwhile, the factory piece is sturdy but tiny.

You'll end up with something along these lines... http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y490/mphsgal/Jeffs%20pix/Sam/sam_03_2015_zpsbj9qtouq.jpg... that's the bike with the screwed up frame. Interstate 40 is not motorcycle friendly. Going to run me around $600 to get it back in service...  :(

Agreed. I like tiny/compact so it suits me, but definitely not a comparison for what you see on larger cruisers if that's the look you are going for.
