Cool...
Some creature, otters, seals?... I read... dip their food back in the water to add salt...
...and some Amazonian monkeys genetically altered plants, by selectively eating only the sweetest fruits and discarding in seeds in a way that made them replant...
That's monkey GMO... :-?...

For the last few years, I have been feeding a family of Blue Jays on my deck. They come everyday at different times but set out in the tree next to the deck and call for me to come feed them. Apparently, they are pretty smart. They can remember where they stashed their food in up to 150 different locations and remember which is the freshest and oldest so they do not waste any. They might have a bird brain but i doubt if many of us could accomplish that. And when they said chimps might be able to cook but could not reason a way to build a fire, I bet if you gave them a BIC Lighter they would figure it out pretty quick.

Not quite,  'selective breeding' is a mite less direct than actually tampering with DNA
Still shows how smart an animal really can be

A buddy called and told me about a blue jay that planted sunflower seeds in his garden and the birdS are coming and looking at them grow. As in, there are more that know and they are sitting and watching the plants. No , they don't just sit all day,

I have set up a few feeders in my yard for my morning wake up coffee time.
Laugh my butt off at the young squirrels tumbling and going nutz, I think they dig up a root that gets them high or something.
Anyway... I've set up a couple of water features (fountains) and a bird bath, the black birds will take a piece of corn (previously opened by the squirrels who only eat the heart of the kernel) and dip it into the water of the bird bath to "soften" it up and make it easier to break into pieces.... pretty darn smart if ya ask me.
Oh and I have several corn plants along my fence, thanks to the squirrels burying some of the kernels.

Thanks for adding.
Do they seem aware that they are responsible for the plants growing?

Yeah the wife is pissed about them tearing up her flowers I put in for the humming birds.
LOL, they dug up the plant troughs and buried corn there, I took the corn plants out and put them along my fence, then they ate about 90% of them.... I think there are about five shoots left, of the corn that is.... three of the four planters are empty of flowers.
She is not sure weather I should start shooting my squirrels or the rats that are starting to come from next door.  ;D ;D ;D

Well, doesn't matter if you don't have the right tools.
So, whatchyagot for rat shooting?
And, IIRC , squirrels are just rats dressed up for the prom.
