Title: removing decal adhesive Post by Manchesteral on 06/02/15 at 10:07:36 Hi all, not been here for a bit ! question, i removed, with the aid of a hairdryer, the horrible looking decals from the side of the petrol tank on my savage, unfortunately the adhesive is stubbornly refusing to give up, does anyone have a foolproof method of getting it off without damaging the paintwork behind it? Iv'e tried petrol and washing up liquid with water, any suggestions products that will do the job, thanks in advance, Al. >:( |

Title: Re: removing decal adhesive Post by Dave on 06/02/15 at 11:06:53 I have a bottle of "Universal Adhesive Remover" I bought at the Automotive Paint Supply store. It works really well - but adhesive gums up the cleaning rag/towels and you have to change them often. |
Title: Re: removing decal adhesive Post by Boogie_with_Stu on 06/02/15 at 11:59:45 My bike had a "cheeky" laser metalflake-like butterfly on the tank when I got her. I used goo-gone, worked perfectly. It is citrus based, so no nasty chemicals that might damage rubber or plastic. Cover the unwanted decal with 2 layers of paper towel (tape in place if the decal is on a vertical surface) and saturate the area with Goo-Gone. Let sit for 15 mins, then saturate again. Remove paper towel and discard, then get the decal started on a sharp corner. peel slowly, adding fresh Goo-Gone to the area where the decal meets the surface if needed. Cleans up with plain water. |
