Title: Ebay mig welders Post by savagerider87 on 05/30/15 at 06:53:55 I have been looking at mig welders on ebay. They don't seem to be name brand, like Lincoln, or Miller, but run about $100. Has anyone used these before? Are they any good? |
Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by verslagen1 on 05/30/15 at 06:58:42 you might as well go to HF and not pay shipping, get a replacement warrantee if you want, and someplace to take it back to if it don't work. most likely made by the same people. |
Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by savagerider87 on 05/30/15 at 07:06:31 The nearest HF is 160 miles away from me. Id rather have it shipped from HF than drive 6 hours round trip :) |

Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/30/15 at 10:11:10 migs have some weak links, wire feed jamming and speed control. Gassless migs ? Never used one. The gas puts an inert gas area around the weld. So, a fan blowing,, ,you do the math.. If you have a problem, need parts, anything, and there is no brick and mortar store to go to with receipt in hand, then what? The tips need replaced, little wheels in the wire feed may need replaced. Google the product name and terms like Unreliable, junk, etc. |
Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by DesertRat on 05/30/15 at 10:18:16 you can also check CRAIGSLIST as for "gassless" GMAW, you can use flux core https://youtu.be/0NVVqy0mpFI |
Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by MMRanch on 05/30/15 at 14:25:42 I'm on my second HF mig welder. 220V four temp/.030 or .035 wire ... I use it at least weekly some time daily. The first one lasted about 5 years. I'm also on my second case (24/2#) of wire but it's almost gone. :) I need to learn to weld aluminium . ::) |

get a tig box and LOTS of practice. i spent over a year, 8 hrs a day in school learning how to tig. start with mild steel to get the hang of the rhythm and technique needed, then move on to aluminum, which is a whole DIFFERENT beast all together. it melts so much different and is hard to gauge when to dip the rod |
Title: Re: Ebay mig welders Post by stewmills on 06/01/15 at 12:43:41 I have this welder, but got it about 5 years ago and it's NI branded, not this off-brand. Looks identical other than mine is yellow. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200632003_200632003 If you only do light stuff now and then (not welding race car cages, life dependent things, etc) it's great. It's 110, s you can plug it into any regular home plug and go to work! |
