Title: Whining noise coming from rear wheel?
Post by dhsmithh on 05/21/15 at 04:40:18

Finally all recovered from my foot injury and got the bike all back together and rode it for the first time yesterday. it goes awesome but I can hear a whining noise coming from what sounds like the rear wheel. Not only when i let off the throttle, it happens just slowly cruising through a neighborhood as well.

For an idea of the sounds, it sounds like if you were in a manual vehicle and sped up in first gear and let off the gas, thats the kind of whining that I'm hearing on my bike.

Hoping its something easy to get rid of.

Thanks,
Dave

Classic belt tension symptom. You can rub wax on it and see if that affects your squeal. If so,

Is your belt too tight?

You should be able to hold the bottom of the belt and twist it 90 degrees with your fingers.....without straining.

(There is a thread somewhere.....I am on my phone as our internet service is down - so I can't provide a link easily).

And alignment, A string shoved under the belt, roll forward ttill it's at the front of the front pulley, then pulled tight and it should line up with the edges of the rear pulley.
That's how we aligned the pumps on drilling rigs.

I'll check my alignment and tension when I get home, thanks for the input!

You didn't loosen the axle did you?...
You needed to... the adjusters can't move the wheel with the axle tight...

You'll have to get a new bolt and try again...but, loosen the axle this time...

It really should turn quite easy... :-/...

I've never broken one of those although I have seen them broken before.
