Title: Works one day, but not the next Post by Text_14 on 05/18/15 at 22:09:45 Hey guys, just bought my first bike (learning to ride). I have read a few threads already and can't seem to figure out my issue. I am still working on it, but if someone has any tips I would love to hear. Bought the bike, which was sitting for three years. Replaced the spark plug, changed the oil and filter, and start her up just fine. Took her out for a spin and everything seemed to be fine. The next day went to go for a ride and when I put it in first and slowly released the clutch it would just die every time. I have the carb apart ride now (well almost, still working on getting a stripped screw out). Going to be cleaning it once it's all apart and see if it fixes the issue. Could there possibly be something I have missed if this doesn't solve my issue? How likely is it that the Kickstand Safety Switch could be shot? Also, I am planning on replacing the muffler with a HD Dyna soon. Since I have the carb apart should I just rejet it now? Or once I have the muffler on? Thanks for helping out! |

Title: Re: Works one day, but not the next Post by Steve H on 05/19/15 at 04:09:53 Does it die completely at once like you turned off the switch? Or, does it sort of lug and sputter and then die? It all at once, I'm thinking kickstand safety. It's designed so you can put it in gear with the clutch pulled and the kickstand down. If you try to take off that way, it kills the engine. If the switch isn't working right, it might still think you have the kickstand down. |

Title: Re: Works one day, but not the next Post by Text_14 on 05/19/15 at 22:25:45 I replaced the Petcock with the Raptor last week, so I would assume that isn't the issue. The bike just dies, it doesn't sputter at all. I can rev it up in neutral, when I shift into first and just let it idle with the clutch in everything sounds fine and seems fine. When I release the clutch and give it some throttle, it just shuts right down on me. Once I get my carb back together and installed I will update. Should have it in tomorrow (work third shift, so around 5pm on the 20th) |
