Title: Front brake switch sticking....
Post by dhsmithh on 05/17/15 at 11:32:24

So while installing my new brake light, I thought my switches didn't work but after testing wires etc i found that my front brake was always putting 12v to the brake light and it was just always bright. so i was wiggling wires and wiggled the one by the front brake lever and it went to zero so i took the plate off with the spring and stuff and cleaned it a little and it seemed to work. but now it will get stuck 3/10 times you use the front brake, anything i should look for to solve this problem? not sure if i should replace the whole switch or something i can just clean real good to stop it from sticking.

That you wiggle d a wire and got the light to go out kinda raises an eyebrow with me. Squeeze the lever and that closes the switch. Or, short the wires together and permanently accomplish the same thing.
I forgot how it's built, and I am working from the assumption that the brake lever is returning Fully to the
I am not applying the brake
position.

I had the same problem with mine... a switch off a GS1100 will work, use dielectric grease on the contacts.

I pulled the switch apart, degreased, sandpapered everything and put back together. works weel for several years now. The swith got clogged with gunk, maybe some old WD40 or something and stuck on, like yours.

Try spraying it really well with electrical contact cleaner. Is the switch stuck or is it the brake lever?

as far as i can tell the lever moves like it is supposed to. i will try the wd40 or electrical cleaner.

is it direct fit or does it need modification?

I had to cut the bullet connectors off the GS switch and splice the wires onto my OE wires close to the lever .... I would leave enough slack to be able to reach the lever.  :)
