Title: 2008 S40 Engine Rebuild Cleaning Question(s)
Post by JohnsonLager on 05/10/15 at 21:27:31

This is a great site.  I wouldn't be able to do the work I'm doing without it.
I'm replacing my cam chain and sprocket and cleaned up my valves.  I'm waiting on some parts and in the mean time was going to clean up my piston, cylinder, etc.  When I read this post:

He mentions not cleaning the carbon from the piston and the combustion chamber.

My first questions are what should I clean and shouldn't I clean?
Also, I already cleaned the combustion chamber.  Should I expect issues and is there any preventive steps I can take?

Specifically, Should I clean the carbon build up on the top of the piston?

How many miles? What happened to ruin the sprocket?
You sure just a Verslagen won't get it?

30k.  I'm getting a verslagen.  The tensioner was extended 22mm, I believe or almost fully popped out.  I made a decision to replace the sprocket at chain since I had it torn down.  I can't completely diagnose the issues I was having, low compression/lack of power, but since the tensioner was extended I wanted to rebuild the whole system and not have to tear it all down in 10k or so.
