Title: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by botticelli on 05/03/15 at 11:53:10 Can anyone share any insight if 21 inch front and rear wheels would fit? I am more asking for the front.... Pretty sure the voodoo vintage hardtail can fit one. Would definitely make for a sweet hardtail.... |

Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by botticelli on 05/03/15 at 15:19:13 Yeah I was quite inspired by a member here, Rpnshts, xs650 build. http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13931 he uses 21's front and rear. |

Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by Art Webb on 05/03/15 at 21:37:28 right, but is the hardtail based on the stock frame? if so, it may have the same limitations |
Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by botticelli on 05/04/15 at 15:20:00 This would be with a voodo vintage or similar hardtail I think it would all work out in the back. The question is does a 21 inch wheel run the risk of hitting the bottom fork tree, during suspension actuation? |
Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by HovisPresley on 05/04/15 at 16:13:30 Great blog about the XS650 build, very thorough, thanks for posting the link. The difference between a 21" and a 19" front wheel is only 1", if it were measured between the spindle and the bottom yoke/fork tree, ie. the radius rather than the diameter of the wheel. I believe that if the forks were under maximum pressure (bottomed out) there would be at least a 1" gap between the two, so no worries there ;) |
Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by old_rider on 05/04/15 at 17:31:36 I kinda like the idea of a smaller rear tire with a taller front tire making it lean to the rear and give a laid back ride without changing the angle of the tree. :) But that's just me.... |
Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by FDM on 05/05/15 at 04:35:43 I have a VV hardtail currently installed and am in the process of having wheels built. I'm going for an 18"/21" set up. I will say based on my experience with this hardtail that if you put a 21" on the back it will come very far up in the frame and there won't be practical room for a usable cross member to mount a spring mounted type seat to. You would most likely have to engineer some type of seat mounted directly to the fender. Shouldn't be a problem as its a custom application and everything about it will require some adjusting/ customizing, Just keep in mind things are pretty tight in there. |
Title: Re: hardtail with 21's front an back Post by LS650THUMPER on 05/06/15 at 19:38:20 you can get longer forks, with out changing the tree !!! franks on line has them. |
