I've found that tailgaters tend to back off a bit after my bike farts at them. I noticed this in Portland traffic last week. After some brief thinking, I found a way to induce it deliberately: flick the kill switch off then back on! The momentary loss of spark loads the pipe with uncombusted fumes and makes a great sound that usually gets the attention of the unattentive. I've not ridden at night yet, I wonder if flames shoot out?

A heel on the Sidestand works great,too. Absolutely undetectable.

Me too PDX, I like bikes with character, and the backfiring is all part of the personality.

We had a "work place incident" that resulted in some deaths and serious injuries so I can't just pull into the carpool parking near the front doors and let the after-fire blast away. I quietly kill it in gear now ;)

It sure is a nice way to get noticed, though :)

Hah. I have noticed that too here in West Virginia Morgantown area up to Waynesburg PA on my work commutes. It seems that really elderly ladies love to tailgate me and back off only after nearly rearending me. Given my backfires arent that loud but I am begining to believe that my savage Knows when its underneath a interstate overpass to fire off a 12 guage so to say. Got a stock muffler but the previous owner drilled 3 additional holes in the end about the diameter as the stock middle one
