Title: So, how bad my Cam Chain Guide looks?? (And buy)
Post by Eternal on 04/02/15 at 19:38:18

Hello, well, I took my Savage 650 1997 to change the Crankshaft, the dude told me these guides (Cam Chain Guide and the Tensioner, which is the other one) were cracking, so I'm uploading a picture to show you guys what you think about it.

I didn't know about this since it was an used bike, my only concern was the crankshaft (Now replaced :) ).

So check the pic and tell me if you could see how bad it is, sorry for the quality, the tensioner looks kind of the same.

Where should I buy those??

I live in Mexico buy I can buy it online on Ebay or any site that accepts Paypal, but I'm looking the cheapest and affordable option, if it includes the chain, would be awesome.

Thanks  ;D

one guy had the plastic peel off the guides and block the oil pump.
I think I would replace them.

What's the longevity on the guides?

I think the answer here is not discussed: need to replace the chain guide. I wouldn't risk the health of the engine and your own peace of mind.

Yeah, I should do that.

By the way, they told I can get those fixed (There's a Suzuki store here in the city and they can do that, they say!)

Crankshaft, big money, surely they did rings and cleaned up the bore, to go back with worn cam chain guides seems strange.

can't fix Stupid, JOG, like the guys, when I was a wrench, who would pay to have the timing belt replaced on their Dodge Caravan -4 engine, but not drop the few xtra bux for a fresh water pump while we were in there
