Title: Can I and how - fork tubes
Post by wakosama on 04/02/15 at 16:02:20

can I - how do I just slide the fork tubes up an inch or so in the triple tree?  the only clamp bolts I find are on the lower one.  What about the upper?  Is the big nut on the top screwed into the triple tree?

Looked in several posts and still no definitive pictures or description.

Anyway I want to try out a lower front, less rake to see how it is before I go inside the tubes with spacers or cut the springs.

really would like to know before investing major time and find it won't work.

Thanks.

They don't slide in the triple trees like that...read up on the way the RYCA guys and some of our own guys on here have tried lowering them...

Thanks.  I read that, and a couple other threads.  Was hoping there was an easier way I didn't know about is all.

For $250 you can purchase a RYCA upper triple clamp that allows for sliding the forks.

Unfortunately.....it does not come with a way to mount handlebars and you would have to use clip ons....or drill some holes for the bar mounts.

Here's an Idea.

Factory forks & TTT, as in:
http://tomradde.com/xt225/styled/index.html

For only 475.00 + Shipping.
Then you can modify them to your hearts continent.
Knowing you can, at any time, go back to what you have now.

Just an idea, if you want to modify.

For what it worth, you are limited by the type and performance of the front forks.  Just pushing them up a bit to lower it, will yield the same poor perfomance with slightly quicker turning.

Going through the effort to swap out the top tree WITH installing emulators and new springs will be largely wasted.  Sort of like changing a camshaft without changing the carb settings....not much to gain.

Bite the bullet.  Do the full monte,  Making the upper, doing the emulator work and new springs you are looking at shy of $350 total.
You have a good working front end!

but....that's my opinion, and they are like armpits.  we all have them, and most stink!    ;D

Maybe it wasn't apparent that the reason I asked was to find a simple way to experiment with the geometry before I wasted all that money and hours of my time mistakenly to find the appropriate amount to lower front end or that it really wasn't worth the effort.

Happy holiday weekend of your choice.
