Title: Starter...keeps starting
Post by zwspringer on 03/31/15 at 17:53:13

Hey everyone, '97 with 15,800 miles. The last thousand or so have been my only bike experience.

Recently had to fix some electrical issues (rear brake light switch caught fire), but that's all sorted as far as I could tell.

Finally took it out for the first time in a few weeks and it ran okay (backfiring a good bit, but lets stay on topic). I got home, built a stand to keep it upright, and wanted to do an oil change since I doubt the previous owner had in a while. Wanted to do it warm so I started her up. Started up just fine, but after I released the start switch it was still giving me the starter sound.

It had been dark for a while so I figured I would consult you guys before getting to it tomorrow, any thoughts?

the starter relay could be stuck.
give the fender a sharp rap right underneath the ig switch with the plastic handle of a good sized screwdriver.

Well, hitting it didn't work, which sucks.

I figured lets take it out and see if there's anything obviously wrong, which yielded no results as far as the starter is concerned. I did find this hole, however. Picture is looking from the right side to the left, where the starter goes into the tranny.

Doesn't look good to me.
