Post by viZe on 03/30/15 at 14:27:24

Hello all,

My wife have a little 1 cyl. 650 S40 bike. She would like to install a windshield. Something that will protect her from the wind. Looking for suggestion here on brand and model to order !

Thanks you very much.

Ken.

I have an OEM windshield off an 05 to part with if you're in Ontario. (not really shippable)

depends how much shield she wants, the factory shield is great, probably the best smaller shield you will find, or if she like a big ol shield, and is tall, the Dakota tall 3.0 is a good choice, too
Others have had good luck with Memphis Shades, and slipstreamer
How tall does she need the shield to rise above the headlight? (you want her looking over the shield, not through it, two plastic visors (helmet, shield) will cause distortion)

I like the wind, (and BUGS, Bees, Grasshoppers, June Bugs, Dragonflies, etc.), to hit the top of my helmet.  Not my forehead, eyes, mouth, or neck.

Have her sit on the bike, (Riding position)
look straight ahead,  (Level),
then measure up, from the top of the headlight,
to 2" below where she is looking, (at the angle of the forks).
That measurement, is, 'usually,'  the best number for height.

That usually works fairly well for me.

there is no way to not feel the wind on a motorcycle, the biggest sheild in the world can't block it all, the best you can do is reduce the wind
MN spring has it right, measure to below her line of sight (about even with the tip of her nose is about right) this will kick most of the wind up and over, and make a nice bubble of farly calm air so the wind isn't blasting her like a hurricane
Whe you feel no wind at all during travel, you're in a car  ;D

Riding a bike is an Outside experience, only faster.
Rain feels like BBs.
Proper protection required.
Proper footwear, not typical Lady's shoes.
Leather gloves.
Full coverage helmet.
Take the safety class.

slipstreamer spitfire. inexpensive. easy to install. big enough to block wind without looking obnoxious on a small frame bike. mine is great.

if its too tall, you can cut it with a fine tooth jigsaw, medium speed. tape off both sides to prevent scratches.

I have one I took off for a RYCA conversion.  $30 plus shipping.  It looks slightly used, not new.

slipstreamer didn't work too well on my S40, the stock drag bars don't leave a lot of room for the style of mount it uses

Got a stock Suzuki one I just pulled from my Savage. Make me an offer if you're interested.

I'm 5'8" and the stock OEM one suits me fine, they're expensive if you buy new.

Windshields work their best when they are straight up and down, perpendicular to the road. Following the angle of the forks is a quick way to get serious buffeting of your helmet. I'm 6'2", have the seat lifted better than an inch in the front, and use a Slipstreamer HD-0 handlebar mounted shield, installed fully upright. Used to run a Memphis Shades Big Shot on tweaked Kawasaki VN800A fork mounts. Went from a 21" tall shield down to a 15" shield, with the same net effect. The smaller shield works great, yet looks better.

Any handlebar mounted small to medium shield is adequate. Memphis Shades, Rifle, National Cycle, Slipstreamer, Maier... it doesn't matter who made it, as long is it is mounted correctly.

Hmmmm my shield is by necessity mounted following the line og the forks, I don't notice helmet buffetting
I do notice the Slipstreamer on my bigger bike seems to block wore air at a more upright angle, though, can't argue that at all

JC Stkoes, the factory sheild sells for $125 at motosport, that's not even close toexpensive

I got the slipstream hellfire for the wife's LS650 savage, it has the elkhorn? bars (tall ones), it was a challenge to make them fit, but they do fit.
I like the fact that they mount in 4 places not just 2.
Make sure when its mounted that she is looking OVER the windscreen, not through it, glare during the night or from a rising sun or setting sun will block her vision, most windscreens tend to bend the view a little causing for riding mistakes ... and we don't want those.
Look to spend on the average of $170 to $250 on a small bike windscreen... unless you find one on craigslist in your area.

The picture on the Slipstream site shows it mounted to a S40

In my country Art Webb, they're $300 plus new. I got a second hand one for about $120.

That is expensive, wonder how much of that is taxes  / duties, etc?

New question...  Mine came with a small windshield can't find name.  Blocks wind on chest, not hands though.  Flat metal brackets with  bottoms that wrap around the top of the fork tubes.  Seems solid, but not adjustable.  Nicely curved.  Doesn't say Suzuki on it.

But what I'm asking about is a suitable CAFE FAIRING-BIKINI FAIRING for an S40 with lower bar setup?  One that doesn't look twice to big for this bike.  No pictures even on the RYCA builds.  None available?  Anyone.
