Title: OH YEAH..... ITs BIKE season!!!
Post by Pine on 03/16/15 at 07:33:21

I rode the bike into work for the first time this year.  56F foggy, but a nice ride for the most part. We have so much rain for the last month that there are severer potholes everywhere.  So between the long break and seaching for spine breaking potholes.. travel was slow and very careful... which is always a good thing when on a bike in town on a foggy monday morn.

Expectation for the ride home.. 80F and sunny. I suspect my way home will not be direct, the bike needs a nice country rode to stretch  out on.

I went for a ride last night......there is a whole bunch of sand on the curves and hills on the back roads.  Just 10 days ago we were fighting 6 inches of new snow and arctic temperatures....and the roads have not yet recovered from the application of the sand/gravel. We did have enough rain to wash the salt away - a few days of traffic and a few hard rains to wash the sand to the berm,  and we will be good to go.  Right now you have to be very careful in the corners.

Yep...Let the Games Begin! 8-)

I did a 100+ mile ride yesterday and the back roads of OH are tolerably bad. There's still gravel at the end of driveways but most of the road salt and mud is gone. The worst time I had was getting stuck behind a cattle trailer on a 2 lane with a double yellow for 3/4 mile or so. The smell wasn't quite as nasty as it will be in July though. :)

Wow... hard to believe how warm it was going home... yeah leather jacket has been traded for the "Summer Joy" mesh jacket.  Oh and first tank of gas for the bike since the prices went down! Yeah HA! 2.5 gal of Premium for less than $6!

Looks like this is last ride this week... rains return with a vengence tomorrow.

I am actually a little stiff, which surprised me, its only a 10 mile ride into work. You may recall that I hurt my back last July and had not ridden much since, nor done anything (like NOTHING but lay in bed or sit at the computer). I just didn't realize how much I had wasted I guess.  Very glad to be back on the bike.

65 miles around the NE of Cincinnati on Sunday, and a quick run into work today. The main roads aren't in bad shape, but I didn't explore much off the beaten path.

You guys are KILLING me, it was 72* when I left at 10:30 this morning. 85* now, 4:20.

I rode about 70 miles today.

Sorry, I had to rub it in.  :)

Versy lives in that part of the country where, if there's a single cloud in the sky, it's considered bad weather.   :D

It bumped 80 degrees here in North Texas today. I had the air conditioner on in my automobile this morning.

It was great riding this afternoon.

Now we are due for a week of rain, which after being in a drought for several years is much needed.

Not sure what id do with a "non" riding season. Worst case scenario here is the 2 week rainy season where it looks like it's gonna rain but actually doesn't. Just wished I lived more than 5 miles from work so I could stretch her out a bit more. I actually take the long way (9 miles) home after work.

Why do you think that most of these bike projects are from us "northerners"? :-?

Tearing our bikes apart is the only way we get to spend any time with them in the "non-riding" season! ;)

Dave that's the flip side for me. Having to decide on taking the bike off the road for any major changes since there isn't really any off season. It was torture the few weeks I had her torn down to fix the PO related issues. Hell the 2 days it sat waiting for Verslagen's chain tensioner gave me pains every time I walked by it to use the jeep.

You need a "beater bike"........one that will still run while you work on the other one.

And........It is OK if the beater bike is also a nice bike. :)
