Title: Oil leak help
Post by austin707 on 03/06/15 at 05:20:06

I am new to the savage and I have a question on a oil leak. When i first got the bike it never leaked oil. I changed the oil and since then it has developed a slow leak. Its not the drain bolt or the oil filter cover. Is there a known spot for these savages to develop a leak? Any help is appreciated.

We get a head plug leak... see in the Tech section...

Where is your leak?...

If the leak is from the bottom.....make sure the footpeg bolts are tight.  The bolts go clear though the front of the engine, and if they get loose the middle seam of the engine can leak.

Also if your sprocket nut is loose, oil can leak from that shaft....be sure to check that as the shaft can be damaged if the pulley is wobbling around loose.

The leak is happening on the bottom of the engine. The engine is out of the bike right now with none of the bolts running through it.

Then it's the footpeg bolts... It'll seal back up when you reinstall the engine...

I like to put some bolts in those motor mounts holes, and tighten them up to stop the leak.  I don't want the leaky oil fussing with the sealer in that seam....I prefer not to have to split the case to reapply sealer.

Drain the oil, you can close the gap with a piece of all thread and some nuts and washers.
