Hi All, I'm a new member, but been using the forum for advice since buying an 86' Savage in Australia. They are not as popular here, they were only imported from 86 to 89 and again from last year.

I took the motor our to paint and broke the little wire clean at it's base while resembling the bike. The thin wire enters the engine below the clutch arm. I'm not too sure what it's purpose is.

Do I have to take the motor out again and split the casing to repair? if it's an earth can it be mounted elsewhere?

That's the wire going to the Neutral sensor on the transmission.

You can get to it by pulling the clutch cover on the engine and then splice a new wire to the switch.

Yep. It just won't know when it is in neutral and the safety interlocks will act like it is in gear. That means you have to have the kickstand up to start the bike. And you won't have a neutral light to tell you when you ARE in neutral.

Yeah, and even when it's in Neutral,if you wanna get off, say to put the helmet on, grab a drink, whatever, it's gonna die when you put the stand down, UNLESS you bypass the safety..
