Title: Lowering my handlebars options Post by wakosama on 02/20/15 at 16:47:20 I'd like to lean forward more into the wind, but I can't just reverse the tall risers because it will bump against the little windshield. With the straighter S40 bars, how can I lower them, how much lower? Nice if I didn't have to spend more $$. I eyeballed it and don't think tall sockets will get the bars high enough to clear the tank at a comfortable angle. I'm not trying for the cafe look, just grips lower and/or farther forward some. I know there's good ideas here. Thanks again. :) |

Title: Re: Lowering my handlebars options Post by KennyG on 02/20/15 at 17:32:40 Wako, I cut my risers off to a little over 2" and bored and tapped them to take the OEM Allen Bolts. The drill & tap is not cheap because the pitch on the threads is 1.25. This worked out well and the finish exactly matches the original finish.. LOL Make sure you stay a little on the plus side of 2" or the bars will bump the tank. Kenny G |

Especially the little knubs on the inside of the switch housings that fit into holes in the bars so we can't reposition them if we roll the bars around and down. Guess I gotta find the Dremel or a file. Still trying to figure out the metal rods shoved inside the bars. I guess the previous owner put the there as vibration dampers. Stuck tight too, because I tried to pound them deeper. Oh well, I guess I will have find new bars. :-[ |

I think the bars you will like for "Leaning Into The Wind" may be the 1" Super Bars that Ryca sells. I like leaning into the wind as I ride and I love the Super Bars on my Blast. I think that you are going to find that those metal rods are welded in to the OEM bars to increase the bar weight, to help minimize vibration in the bars. The little knubs on the inside of the switch housing are placed there to aid in assembly at the factory, and to keep the controls from moving when you hit a really horrific bump. There is no reason you can't drill steel bars to accept the knubs or simply grind the knubs off with a Dremel Tool. The handle bars are knurled in the center to prevent them from dropping. Again when you hit one of those horrific bumps in the road that we don't see until we hit it. As soon as I know that I have a set of handle bars in the position that I want for sure I drill the clamps and run an Allen Screw through the clamp and then tap threads in the handle bar to make sure I don't get a surprise when I go over the unexpected bump.
