They seem to have that unwritten rule that a family with less than 5-7 children :
a. has a quack father,
b. has a sterile mother...

Meanwhile, in "one-child-per-family", ever-aging Europe... :P

This is the real reason most religions are against abortion and the preemptive strike that is contraception. Religious leaders figured out that if their flock had 1 child per, and the opposition has 3 per, they would soon become a minority. (and thud lose their power). ;D ;D ;D

I never considered that aspect, Trippah.

They managed to look the other way on wearing synthetic fibers, why not birth control? Always wondered why they argued so vehemently.

Christianity says to love the Lord with all your might and love others more than yourself. Understanding love is difficult. The opposite of love is selfishness and raising children requires you to rid as much selfishness as possible. Children are a humbling experience, like fasting for long periods or self-denial. Children bring meaning to the word love like nothing else, not even a spouse, can.

The anti-birth control position is a response to the inevitable slippery slope many feared it would bring on which has been proven to be true. Europe's decline and also inevitable defeat is due to the influence of secularism, not necessarily atheism, but as much apathy as anything else. Secularism and atheism, at their heart, are very selfish in nature.
