I went thru the whole list and I cant find anything about the amount of oil. I might have skipped something.

The OEM oil is 441cc's (14.91 oz) resulting in a height of 75mm.

Best regards,

Spec's are so funny... 441cc's!.... ;D...
...as if 440cc just won't do... :P...

I like the torque spec's too.... 34.2ftlb's...  (like 0.2 of a ftlb makes any difference)...
:-/...

Spec's should say,... half a pint or so... or, 30 or 40 ftlbs...
Oil capacity... 2 and a bit quarts...

This is why engineers can't slice pizza... ;D...

We can too slice pizza!

60 degrees for each piece makes 6 slices per pizza.
45 degrees for each piece makes 8 slices per pizza.

I come across this daily, if not hourly.

for instance... what is room temperature?
20 °C for metric or when converted it's 68 °F
but we say 70 °F is room temp.

and I love it when they specify a precise pressure and some dingbat will convert it to xx.xx psi.
hey dingbat, we can't measure .xx psi  and .xx psi will vary with the passing weather system.

but given the room temp is the same in july in tempe az as it is in norway in december   :-?

our fork tube are roughly 36" long and we would be lucky if they were machined to within ±.001" of Ø1.125
at the max versus the min, the difference is a little over 2cc.

so is 1cc important?  naw.
is 2cc important?  naw.
is 10cc important?  probably, but it's gonna leak out anyway.   :o

with slider held vertical, spring in, and the tube collapsed into the slider, fill to about 1/2" from the top.
run it for awhile and check the distance later.  when I bought fork oil it came in half liter bottles.  after filling you should have a little left over.

In the Clymers manual it says to use Dextron ATF for fork oil.  Years ago people either used ATF or hydraulic oil for forks.  Is "fork oil" actually better or just advertising?  I can't see motorcycle forks wearing out oil faster than an automatic transmission does.

Needs to be thin, so it passes through the orifice, so, ATF qualifies, I spose, but I googled motorcycle fork oil, and lots of stuff popped up.

I have read that ATF is very sensitive to temperature, so in colder weather the oil will thicken.

this is the first time I am changing the oil in my forks since I got the bike so I want to make sure I am putting the right oil in it. I am not an abusive rider, I cruise a lot and sometimes in bumpy roads. I want to be able to feel like i am riding over cotton clouds hahaha ;D

I really don't believe the average rider on a Savage with a very primitive and marginal suspension will be able to tell any difference between dedicated 15W fork oil and ATF.  The forks and valving on the Savage are 1950's technology.......and with the 1.5" travel at the rear....it is more like riding on frozen clouds.
