Are you able to get just the outside tube of the front forks? You know the tube that connects to the front fender? One of my screws broke off in the tube and there is no way of getting it out.

If you are anywhere near Mansfield, Ohio and Pinwall Cycles...they will sell you a used one cheap. They have a bunch of them right now with bent upper (inner) tubes from front end crashes.

In Dayton....had seen some on eBay that were used pretty cheap. Just getting other people's opinions.

My friend tried getting the screw out and broke his screw bit....so, it's gone. I'll need to get a new tube to be safe.

Drill out the bit and re-tap it.

We tried that and the drill bit broke in the tube. Now it's stuck in there with no way that I can see to get it out.

I broke off an extractor off in the same sized 6mm bolt in a lawn mower engine. I bought a set of small chainsaw sharpening stones for my Dremel, and the very carefully went to the task of grinding out the hardened extractor, and the grinding most of the screw away. It took a lot of time - but a 17HP engine on a mower is worth a lot of money - so the time was justified. Eventually I had to drill and tap the block for a larger bolt, and then I believe I drilled that bolt and tapped it for the correct size 6mm that held the starter housing on.

I have no doubt that a skilled mechanic or machinist could fix your fork leg. The problem is that if it is beyond your ability, and you don't want to pay someone to fix it who can.....then buying an affordable replacement and installing it would most likely be your best bet.

I have made a tool that you need to hold the inner rod while you take the screw out of the bottom...I can let you use it if you pay shipping both ways. You also could do this replacement without removing the upper (inner) tube form the bike...if you want to monkey around with it while it is still on the bike.
