Title: stoopid *noob* tricks...
Post by Skiprrdog on 01/24/15 at 17:25:25

Okay, I cant believe I did this, especially after telling myself not to do it earlier in the week. I have had the clutch side of motor open, checked cam chain, figured I needed the verslavy mod, and sent her off.
This morning, being the impatient sort that I am, I thought I would re-check my valves, and turned the motor over several times, with a wrench, looking for TDC compression stroke, when that dim, 15W refrigerator bulb in my head lit up and said, 'hey you're not supposed to be doing this' :o

I only cranked it around slowly, several times with the wrench, Im probably ok with the timing still? (I hope)

As long as the cam chain was still on,.. yer' fine... (you gotta' have the head cover off to remove the chain.)...

What exactly were you turning? Which way did you spin the crankshaft?
See where the chain tensioner sits? Did you leave that side of the chain slack or is it tight there and slack on the side toward the front tire?
If you have done that, then we might need to go slow and get that straight..

Yes, the cam chain was still on.

I spun the crank counter-clockwise, and the side of the chain closest to the front tine is tight, the back is slack.

So it sounds like im ok?

Cam timing will be fine once you put the new modded tensioner on,.. but... the valve adjustment could be off due to the slack...
Recheck it once you're done...
