After reading the Clymer I noticed in the section on seating new rings they recomended a straight weight oil.  Not easy stuff to find today that would comply with having the Zinc and Phosphorus enginges need.

At first I thought Rotella T1 might work but it is not recomended for 4 stroke gas engines, 2 stroke diesel motors are what it is designed for.

Delo 400 LE straight weight complies (chevron).  I stopped at the bulk card lock in town and they had none but the fellow at the counter did a cross reference check and Duron complies.  After picking up a jug and reading the fine print low and behold it is JASO MA certified for a wet clutch!  Perfect.

Is this a a brand new bike?... use the oil it came with...
...or is this a rebuild?... Shell Rotella dino is fine...

Shell Rotella is fine for any engine that ain't running a cat... diesel or gas...
... and I'll run it in a cat...
I wouldn't use synth oil,... or any oil with friction modifiers, etc...

The most important thing during break-in, is that you don't go 3k miles on the original oil...
Some folks even change it out at 100 miles... 300, and 600, and 1k...

I'm not so picky...
I'd go maybe 300,... then 1k...
I'm lazy and cheap...

Don't do any WFO runs... or long highway cruises...

It's like breaking in new tires... be gentle to start... each additional mile you can allow more leeway, up to somewhere between 600 and 1k miles...
Then,... yer' good ta' go...

JMHO... no one does it same...

... it's just that first miles are seating the piston rings and other parts... You'll get some shrapnel in the oil filter, and that's normal...
After the first few hundred miles, the metal shavings die down, and the engine smooths out...

I even knew a few old timers that used to just get out on the highway, and push their cars up to 100mph for an hour or so to break them in...
Their cars always smoked, and only lasted 30k miles...
... but they had great faith in what they did...
;D... don't do that... ;D...

Ask 100 people,.. and you'll get 100 different answers...

Honestly,... I don't know why I'm answering your question...
Others can probably give better advice...
I have seen metal shavings come from new engines... and it's scary to look at, but normal...  you just want to change out the filter and oil to remove them before you strain the engine too much...
That's the basics...

If you did find a straight weight oil that is good for wet clutches....go ahead and use it.  However the Rotella T 15W-40 will work just fine in a new engine....and an old one as well.

It is a brand new bike.  After the first 100 miles or so I was going to change the oil and filter and run the 30 weight until the rings are seated.

Once the rings are seated I will switch to Rotella 15-40.
