Title: Adjusting the gear shift link mechanism
Post by JungleSavage on 01/19/15 at 16:39:45

Thanks to those who helped fix my clutch issues! It is now working fine, but I have another problem.

When I first put the bike in gear it wouldn't downshift into first, but shifted into second just fine, and then third and so on. Trouble is, it won't shift back down. So right now it is stuck in fifth.

I think it maybe just the position of the gear shift lever on the splines. (I put two-thirds of this bike together from a box of parts.) Here is a photo that shows the position. Also the gear lever is really hard to reach with my foot adding to my suspicion I installed the linkage is incorrectly positioned on the splines.

Here are a couple of pics. Any help figuring this out would be awesome!

Here's a pic showing the position of the gear lever relative to the linkage mechanism.

Lever is way too low...

It should look more like this...

yep, take the lever off the spline and rotate it till it's pointing straight down.  then put it back on.

Yup!

I moved the lever on the splines so it was exactly vertical, and the bike shifted perfectly. Thank you for the help everyone!  ;D

Well,I didn't pitch in,you'd already been told right before I saw it.
Now,take a minute, step back, see how it goes and, next time, study things, not just the shifter, anything, look at it,chew on it, guess at it,THEN,
Before you take a chance on messing something up, ASK, I think you'll get better quicker. Doing great,BTW..
