Title: Clutch slipping
Post by bobbunnell on 01/09/15 at 17:27:29

At end of riding season I noticed the clutch was slipping under acceleration in 2nd gear on my '87 LS 650.  Anyone have specs for clutch friction plate thickness and clutch spring height?

Using Rotella t6 oil.  It is not the clutch cable adjustment.

How do you know it is not the clutch cable adjustment?

I loosened the clutch cable adjustment at the handlebar so there was 1-2 inches of play in the clutch lever....still slipping..

Next, check the lever position on the case.
there are 2 marks behind the lever, pull up on the lever and it should stop between the marks.  If you're very close to the top mark, then you need to open the case and change the throw out rod.

Thanks.  I searched "Clutch" several times , but wasn't using the correct search button and never was directed to the tech section  CLUTCH.  Will use the correct search button next time I am looking for info.
