Title: New Year's Resolution
Post by pgambr on 01/02/15 at 17:05:17

Gents:

I realized today that I haven't made a new year's resolution and today is the 2nd.  Then it hit me, more miles than last year.    8-)

Actually, 10K is the goal; although, I don't know if I'll have the time with work.

Happy New Year's

MMRanch:

I'm halfway between you and Youzguyz.  I'm more than willing to go in either direction.  My problem is getting away from work.  I oversee two golf courses and when everyone is playing I'm working.  April is our busiest month of the year.  I usually can get away in the middle of summer or the middle of winter.    :-/

Lots of people want to be a golf pro till they have to start working 6 day weeks, holidays, and weekends.  I'll certainly keep up to date on the travel threads, so don't rule me out.

Best regards,

OK, we are halfway through the year and I thought I would see how I'm doing towards my goal.  So far I'm at 6,839 for the year.  Pretty good and I don't for see any issues keeping me from the 10K marker.  I know a few of the members here will bust that pretty easily; although, it is a pretty significant number for me.  Shoot that's just a bit over 3,100 miles....

Anyway, happy riding.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Best regards,

Happy riding to you pgambr. I think I have ridden about 4k miles so far this year which is roughly what I had been averaging per year the previous years. I would like to get about 10k also, but I tend to ride a bit less the months of July and August because it just gets so hot here in Houston. I rode today and got caught in some city traffic and it felt like my legs were going to catch on fire cause the bike gets so hot. Well, I'll just have to ride more when it is cooler.

Well, up to about 9,300 miles.  And I did make it to the dragon earlier this month.

Well with a week or so left I put on 11,786 this year, that's a lot more than I thought I was capable of.  No goal for next year; although, I still have one 3 or 4K road trip left in me.  Maybe Colorado? 8-)

Best regards,

Are we trailering the interstates or are we hitting interesting secondary streets the whole way on our bikes?

You do know that out past the Mississippi generally there is only one road from A to B in most cases, right?

And a whole lot of flat and straight .....

Well  ,

from Lynchburg , Tn. its 1359 miles to Rapid City, South Dakota (BlackHills Area).

If we can do 500 miles a day  ,  thats only two over night stays .   I'm thinking campgrounds to save funds .

I'm OK with finding over night spots and telling the Garmin to go find them (with or with-out " avoid InterState option".   ;))

My first choice is to Ride   :)

500 miles a day is a lot even for the most seasoned of riders on cruisers. Sounds a little optimistic. In my 20s I'd do four on an HD dresser and thought that was a good day.

I've done 700+ a day but after about 500 it ain't fun no more !

but I'm in it for the RIDE so what ever we do is "OK" with me .  :)

That all sounds pretty interesting. I could enjoy doing something like this. Most I have ridden in a day so far is around 350 miles and I have to admit I was a bit tired at the end. I'm pretty sure I could do 400 miles per day though. Heck, I guess 500 is probably doable also.

springMan

How far is "The Black Hills" from ya ?    We could "Meet-UP" on the way ....    Maybe in Oklahoma at Lancer's ???  ::) or somewhere  like a campground .

I think it would be a "FUN" ride !  8-)  Kinda like "Wild Savages"   ;D  But without most of the drama  :)

Originally, I was thinking of going to Colorado which is about 1,200 miles.  I would split it up between two 600 mile days, which isn't too bad.  If all was well, maybe making it out to Jackson Hole, Wy.; although, that is another 600 miles.   Usually I go for about 2 hours and then pull over for some gas and water. I should be able to get away from work towards the end of June.....

This last summer I went out to NM and had a blast.  The year before I went from Birmingham to Pittsburgh though the Appalachians.[smiley=thumbup.gif]

Best regards,

We took a family vacation this last summer down through Colorado and NM and back again. We took the van though. I absolutely love NM. I did some rock hounding in the desert down there and had a blast.

Gus etc... Highway 50 is a good bike road if you want to avoid Interstates and cover some mileage with scenery.  Then 10 to Walsenburg,160 over Wolf Creek Pass ,through Pagosa Springs to Durango. North on 550 (the "Million Dollar Highway").   Great bike ride.    8-)
