Title: 87 kill switch wiring Post by mongo on 12/30/14 at 12:27:56 Newbie, here. i just bought a 87 savage as a tinker/toy. The previous owner was a butcher, the right hand switches got broken is has 4 wires hanging out. I have a replacement switch ordered, but want to start the bike by "hot wiring" it. i have figured out how to get the starter to turn the motor over, and i wants to start. But soon as i let go of the started wire it quits. i have looked at the wiring schematics, but not making sense, so i figured I'd ask. I have the clutch switch bypassed, other than & as far as i know everything else is in place & working. the picture is of the wires that would go into the kill/start switch. What wires need to be connected, to get this silly thing to run? Any help would be great. |

Title: Re: 87 kill switch wiring Post by verslagen1 on 12/30/14 at 13:01:47 According to the wiring diagram... http://i757.photobucket.com/albums/xx211/babyhog/S40/1987-94WiringDiagpg2.jpg 1 wire is hot and goes to both the starter switch and kill switch. |
Title: Re: 87 kill switch wiring Post by mongo on 12/30/14 at 13:23:33 So the org/wht provides power the coil & yellow/green activates the starter relay. so they do they both pull their power from the org/blk wire. am i understanding this right. Connect the org/wht wire to the org/blk, then touch the yellow/green to turn the motor over? NOOB |
Title: Re: 87 kill switch wiring Post by Dave on 12/30/14 at 14:00:10 Yep. Orange/black wire is the power source. Confirm this with a test light or voltmeter. Orange/white wire delivers power to the igniter (ignition module. Yellow/green wire gets the starter all excited. White/black wire delivers power to the brake light. |
Title: Re: 87 kill switch wiring Post by mongo on 12/30/14 at 14:08:06 That is what i figured, but wanted to make sure i had it right. So if it does not start, i can diag another area. 8-) |
