Title: Worthless Winter Discussion - Coloring drinks.
Post by Dave on 12/16/14 at 09:23:11

So....the drinks that come in cans with the tabs.  Why in the world do they bother to color them?  You can't see that the drink is blue, or green, or red when it is in a can.  No one bothers to pour their Monster, Red Bull or Death Adder into a glass......they drink it right out of the can. You will never know what color the drink is unless you spill it on your shirt.....or heave it out onto the pavement the morning after a rough night out.

Why in the world do they bother to add dye to color the drink?  :-?

Clothing companies pay them to add staining ingredients...

Dave,
Without dyes, how could you have a "Big Red" or a "Mellow Yellow" or laugh at the grandson's purple stained lips from drinking a Nehi Grape soda? All in the marketing.

Good hunting

If no one could use any colorings, thatd be a fair and level playing field,, Im with that, food, drinks,, If it goes IN, colorings stay out,,

Aaaand while we are griping,,

When Im calling someone and Im not Sure if its long distance AND I punch the One,, Ive Already TOLD them Im Willing to Pay long distance charges to connect me,, SO,, Why dont they just set it up to Connect the call instead of telling me I dont have to dial the one?

Yer right JOG!  I bet few would eat "I Can't Believe It's not Butter" or Parkay, if it came in its natural color. (see Crisco)

Psychologically, if you see a colour in what you are drinking, or even imagine a colour, it will affect your perception of the flavour. For example drinking green beer on St Paddy's day affects the perception of the flavour of the beer. (until the third or fourth pitcher, anyway). ;D

When they first introduced margarine in Canada it was illegal to have it look like butter when sold, so they gave you a little packet of food dye so you could make it look like butter if you wanted- only it made the margarine orange.

Art, do they sell Vegamite in Canada? I guess you can find it here but I have no idea why you would want to. It's used in Europe and other countries as a spread on bread like we use butter. I had never heard of it so a friend sent me some. The crap is black!  And let me tell you crap has to taste better!  Worst stuff I have ever tasted and the color makes you think your about to bite down on a used oil sandwich.

I know that for a while Coke and maybe Pepsi tried the clear Cola thing...and that didn't catch on.

I bought a pre-workout drink from GNC a few years ago that had so much die in it, that is was like paint.  It would turn the mixing cup blue, your teeth and gums blue....and your poo was Olive Drab.  I wrote to GNC and complained, and it was not long after that they took it off the market.  It came back later with less dye in it.

I have never seen it here, but I have never looked for it either, nor do I intend to. :P

I don't often drink soda or caned beverages, but when I do it's usually Ginger Ale mixed with Rum. So I guess I'm a glass user and not a can drinker, but for me color doesn't matter it's quality and flavor.

Of course the colour matters...it has to be DARK rum. :)

...or this stuff (it has a flame arrestor under the cap).

An Australian on the gym team at Odessa College had his family keep him in good supply of vegamite.. Being in the same room with him when, not IF, he farted was just deplorable.. And his specialty was the rings, a very difficult "art", and the exertion would make him fart, I dont know if the judges counted off for it, but it was bad enough that putting a strike against him for unsportsmanlike conduct wouldnt have been unreasonable, considering the paint peeling nature of the gas he put out..

Awww,, I exaggerate,, I do, but I do believe he did it more than most and it was worse than most..

Correction required: Vegemite (not "vegAmite") is a vegetarian equivalent to "Marmite", a spreadable concentrate of sodium glutammate and other ingredients that...
...essentially add up to being a stock cube in a jar.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IN6EuJ1SsJ4/Uw3sWyJ3_cI/AAAAAAAABC0/jNEiAgdd3P8/s1600/Header.jpg

It also makes for wonderful jokes...

http://memyselfandacoffeecup.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/marmite3.jpg

Really, it's just a spreadable stock cube, and if anyne thinks it's anything like peanut butter...  ;)

https://www.google.it/search?q=vegemite&biw=1680&bih=964&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=pZySVJa7B-jgywPwgIKIBw&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#tbm=isch&q=stock+cube&imgdii=_

And anyway, it's NOT "sold in Europe", it's sold in England, which, as all true Englishmen know, is NOT in Europe...
