Title: Well I finally pulled the trigger......
Post by ToesNose on 12/15/14 at 05:07:18

And out comes a Bullet!

The LS650 has been a wonderful bike and this forum is the best source of information and excellent banter that anyone could ever ask for  :D  But ever since I lived in India I've been longing for a Royal Enfield, the classic 50's styling and that long stroke 'THUMP' have never stopped tugging at my heart strings. So I've finally ordered a new RE C5 Tan/Cherry which might make it here before X-mass.

Cool...Merry Christmas to yourself! ;D

The bike looks great.  I saw a lineup of them at the AMA Vintage days this summer.....they are good looking motorcycles and most folks will think it is a 50 year old motorcycle when they see it.

A beautiful bike indeed!  I see passenger foot pegs! Apparently they have seat mods.  Hey! Someone stole you chrome head cover caps!

Nice one, Toes! That's a great looking bike and colour scheme. Love it. Check all all fasteners for tightness and break it in gently. The US Enfield forum is a great resource of information and high quality banter. Seeya there  :).
Here's my magnificent thumper

Trust me Gizzo the Continental GT was very tempting, but I've always had my heart set on the 50's style Bullet. Yea I've been a member on the US RE forums for a few years, just not that active since I've had the LS650 but I'll be on there again a lot more   ;)

Thanks for all the warm wishes guys, oh and don't worry Stinger I still have my chrome covers hmmmm possibly first mod adding them to the C5? Pfftt   ;D

That is one rugged looking mount for the rear fender - it appear it is actually part of the frame.

Yea Dave the rear fender struts are very substantial, they have to be in India they do 6 up riding sometimes LOL.

that's a pretty bike, I like old school styling sometimes, this is one of those times!   8-)

Nice.....how big is it?

(looks at raydawg and smiles devilishly) You'll have to ask my wife.  8-)

Oh the RE!  It's a 500cc single, comparable in size to the LS650 overall but a nice standard riding stance.  I've ridden both the older Iron Barrel Re's and the new UCE's, the EFI on the new ones definitely gives a nice smooth acceleration and being a big single it's got good low end torque (of course no where near the LS650's  ;) )

Oh...its a shaft drive then eh?

Thought I saw a chain, or does the chain go with the whips?

:D ;D :P :o

Saturday while driving through Denton I was alongside one of the new Enfield Café Racers. This is the most authentic looking production café racer I have seen in recent years. It looks just like the bikes that I was riding in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Note that it has fenders both front and rear just like the olden times.

I could drive that Enfield into the Ace Café and it wouldn't be out of place.

@RayDawg it's a chain on the right hand side.

Well so much for an early X-mass present, it didn't make it on the last container ship so I'll have to wait to pick it up until we return from visiting family just after the new year......I can foresee a few restless nights after I get the call that's it's in but I can't yet get it LOL   :D

Well my bike came in! Rented a trailer and headed 1 1/2 hours off to Greensboro to fetch her, beautiful day here close to 60 degrees and got out for a nice ride  :D  So far LOVE IT! The only initial change I'm thinking needs to be done is different bars to bring them back closer to me. Great first ride, looking forward to spring   ;)

In my country the S40 is still marginally cheaper than the Bullet $NZ8795, OR Electra $NZ 8895. In saying this RE doesn't say whether their prices include registration etc a brand new S40 with three to six months rego would be $NZ 8495. I feel you could add about $NZ400 to the RE prices for on road costs, which works a bit more in the S40's favour.

I would love to have an Enfield Cafe Racer, but the dealer support in North Texas leaves a lot to be desired.

With the S40 you can always find a suitable Suzuki dealer that is within an hours drive.

That is "One perty bike" !  8-)

Tell me your riding it to the Texas ride in the spring so we can see it in action first hand ...  :-?

@JC- If economics is your prevailing reason why you ride, the LS650 is definitely the better choice, while the new UCE Royal Enfields are closer to Japanese quality they are still trailing a bit behind. The Bullet is a heart tug purchase more then anything for me, the style of bike I aesthetically love along with a true standard riding position which my back and hip prefer  ;)

@KennyG- The RE's are extremely easy to work on, if you wrench and have any issues you can deal directly with the importer and Kevin will send any replacement warranty parts directly to you during the two year warranty period.

@MM- The way my life goes I can never commit to anything ahead of time! LOL There are so many variables and seems that there is always something that prevents me from attending anything I want to do and make plans for.  ;D

Toes,

I ddn't know that the importer would deal directly with the end user of their products. I am not going to be buying another new motorcycle for a while, but with the information that ypou provided I would buy one of the Enfield Cafe Racers in New York Minute if I were to get another cycle.

I was just studying the picture of your new bike and noticed the handlebars look "Tilted Forward"  ....  :P    Can't you just loosen the clamping device and tilt them back toward ya just a little?   I have noticed better handling when the bars are the same tilt as the front forks.  :)

Yea MM I would definately play with the angle before replacing them,  you never know till you try  :)

Would love a CGT but the nearest dealer is about 90 minutes away.

My dealer was 80 miles,  picked it up and never plan on seeing him again,  I'll do my own wrenching  ;)

Ha Ha Ha RayDawg!  Once she's broken in I'll be installing a luggage rack  with a removable pillion seat  ;)

Well after a few rides I'm really enjoying the C5, so much more comfortable for my hip and back with the standard riding position.  Far from broken in so Highway riding yet,  but luckily I have some great local twisted on hand.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
