Title: The Beast of Turin
Post by Dave on 12/08/14 at 09:24:39

I love old stuff, I like BIG stuff.  This car has both.....but I donwanna' go 130 mph in it!  A 28,000 cc 4 cylinder engine?  That is 7,000 cc in each cylinder! :o

This engine is too big to crank over by hand, so they prime the cylinder with fuel, pull the engine to TDC, and then turn on the ignition and the buzz coil makes a continuous spark....and you hope the engine takes off and runs.  (If is doesn't, you just keep trying until it does, and I betcha there was a little photo editing to get this thing to start and run on the first pull of the crank).

The Dunlop clincher tyres it's sitting on wouldn't be speed rated or tested, they mightn't stand 100mph plus for very long. Note in the original photo the tyres were white natural rubber which lasted much less.

They'd last longer than the white of my drawers..
